Vivo V17 Pro

Vivo has a brand-new mainstream phone for the midrange market, The V17 Pro. It is equipped with six cameras all in all, with four on the back and two selfie cams. It has a 20:9 AMOLED screen, a battery that can last a whole day, and features quick charging through a Type-C port.

V17 Pro gives you lots of upgrades from the V15 Pro, and cheaper at that. Is Vivo’s latest phone the one to get if you want a versatile, well-rounded handset that will not burn a hole through your budget?

Let’s take a peek into this new phone then.

Market Launch

The phone was officially set for sale on October 19. Those who reserved their units early got giveaways worth $68. The Vivo V 17 Pro is the most engaging mobile phone the business has put together up until now. As you might understand, it has 4 electronic cameras on the back and two cameras concealed within the housing, for an overall of six.

The Cameras

Outside of the pop-up system are two sensors and lenses, and the rest of the design, consisting of a subtle gradient coloring. It is nothing especially groundbreaking. It’s like Huawei’s Breathing Crystal variant for its P30 and P30 Pro handsets.

Taking pictures

If you are into selfies, then the cameras of V17 would make you utterly happy. It is indeed one of the finest. However, taking selfies with one hand can be frightening at times, especially since its back is glossy, thus slippery and quickly takes on fingerprints. Again, not to mention the size.

The primary cam setup is near the center of the panel, instead of being on the upper left or ideal corner, like we’re used to seeing.

The LED flash, installed in between the lenses, has an unusual place but doesn’t affect how we take images or shoot video. Other users might have a different experience, however.

Fingerprint reader Improved

The V17 Pro doesn’t have a physical fingerprint reader on the back; instead, you open the device by just putting your finger on a particular portion of the screen. Vivo states this is the current iteration of its fingerprint-scanner technology, meaning it’s faster and more precise than its predecessors.

Vivo has been one of the pioneers in including under-display solutions into its smart devices, so it’s not a surprise that the V17 Pro opens quickly with a single touch.

Size and Weight

Despite the plastic construction, the gadget is rather heavy for its size; it weighs around 201 grams. It’s also under 10mm thick, making single-handed operation a little harder than we had envisioned when it was first promoted in the market.

It is about 6.44 inches in height, with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 and a screen-to-body ratio that goes up to 91%. The element ratio, meanwhile, is 20:9, meaning it’s a teensy bit taller than the V15 Pro’s 6.39-inch AMOLED. Both panels are comparable in size and quality. Not much of an upgrade in size, though.

What’s on the outside?

The power button is on the site aligned with the volume control, like in most phones. There’s also a button dedicated to open Google Assistant at any time. The button is textured, so it’s much easier to discover by touch. The upper edge sports an earphone jack along with a secondary microphone for sound cancellation. The base is of the handset is where you find the Type-C USB port. It is lined up with a speaker grill for the mono speaker and SIM card tray with a devoted micro SD card slot for broadening the storage capacity.

What’s on the inside?

Vivo V17 Pro uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset by Samsung’s 11-nanometer process. It has an 8GB RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. It incorporates an Adreno 612 GPU, which Qualcomm has enhanced to run popular game engines much better compared to previous Snapdragon 600 and Snapdragon 700 series chips.

The Battery

Battery-wise, then V17 Pro would indeed make you happy. It could last a full day with moderate use on a single charge. What’s more, there’s an 18-watt fast charging onboard, and it works with other chargers, too.

Gaming on V17

Gamers would enjoy this phone, especially with Snapdragon 675. You can play PUBG here. Mobile Legend runs with ease. You can even try running LoL and even tweak on the Mod Skin. Games run smoothly indeed.

Some things to note

  • Versatile selfie camera
  • Notchless OLED screen
  • 8GB of RAM
  • Ultra-wide selfies are ridiculously distorted
  • Confusing UI
  • Not the very best bang for the dollar

Verdict

Being a camera phone, Vivo V17 Pro is packed with some great hardware; however, the software application still requires some polishing. It takes quite several steps to access essential functions. If you like taking selfies, the dual front cameras use plenty of creative flexibility, specifically with features such as the posturing guides.

As an all-rounder, the phone delivers the most excellent outcomes. It features a vibrant screen, a solid build, a snappy interface, a programmable button, and not to mention a long battery life. However, at its price, Vivo could have way more to make this phone genuinely competitive.

While V17 Pro could be the most exceptional phone for selfies, especially with its significant effects in low-light conditions, its overall feature is not so much worth the price. It needs more to stand-out.
