Make sure that you write down the chosen username and its password and leave all the options available under the Global privileges as their defaults.

Using MySQL Client

You can use MySQL Client to create users and databases easily and quickly by running it from the shell. A particular syntax will appear with a dollar sign which will be your command prompt. All you have to do is enter the password and write your queries. It will show different things depending on your query such as:

  • The root as the admin username
  • The hostname that will be typically of a local host.

You will need to write down these values but make sure that you do not write it on the system itself. Things that you need to take note of include the value used for WordPress username, database name, hostname, and the password along with your wp-config.php file.

Using DirectAdmin

If you are a regular user of a single site web hosting account then you can log into it normally and then click on MySQL Management. If you cannot see this button then you will probably need to update your package to activate it.

In this MySQL Management you must click on Create new database. Here you will be asked to provide two suffixes for your database and the username. In order to ensure maximum security make sure that you use 4 to 6 random characters of different sets.

  • Next the password field will generate a password of 8 characters using the Random button. You may also add more characters to it if your wish to ensure more security.
  • Click on Create and the screen will summarize it all such as the username, the database, the password and the hostname. For future reference make it a point to save these on a text file.
