Nokia Android Phones

It’s confirmed, new Nokia Android phones are on their way to enter the smartphone world with Nokia 6 being first of the in-line handsets. The company has launched the set in China, it is yet to know whether the phone will enter other markets as well or not. Nokia has stated additional announcements at the MWC 2017 in February. Its definite there are more Nokia phones yet to come from HMD Global—a Finnish form that acquired the rights of Nokia. So let’s examine the latest news we are familiar with so far pertaining to the launch of new handsets.

  1. The devices will come in early 2017

The HMD Global didn’t make any major announcements related to the launch of its smartphones at the CES 2017. However, the exception is of Nokia 6 launch which was announced on the company’s website following the CES event. The phone will be launched initially in China, at least for now. It is highly anticipated the next in the series could be unveiled in the upcoming MWC 2017 which will be held on 27th February. HMD Global is reportedly working on some new sets, so it’s highly likely the new phones won’t be released for the China region only.

  1. The phones aren’t built by Nokia

It is important to consider Nokia isn’t the one behind the production of handsets. After the company’s brand license expired with Microsoft, the HMD Global acquired the exclusive rights of the Nokia brand to last the next decade. The phones will run on Android OS as the company has partnered with Google.

  1. Nokia is still in the game

Just because Nokia is out of the manufacturing department doesn’t mean it is not involved in the business. As per the licensing terms, Nokia will share a seat in the HMD’s board of directors meetings, where the representative will mark the brand and performance requirements. The company will acquire royalty payments over its patents use and allows HMD to its R&D facilities.

  1. The names of the handsets aren’t all out yet

We know the first handset is termed as ‘Nokia 6’. But what about the others in queue? Few online rumors state there will be at least two more devices in the market. One is the already known mid-range set Nokia 6, while the other one may be an elite flagship gadget termed as ‘P1’.

  1. What we know about specs, design, and features?

The new Nokia 6 will be equipped with 4 GB RAM, 64 GB storage including a microSD card slot, 16 MP main camera, Snapdragon 430 CPU, and a 3,000 mAh battery.

Previously HMD CEO Arto Nummela stated in an interview, “It will be premium quality [and a] design that people will immediately recognize as Nokia.”

Nummela further continued that the phone won’t be focusing on the specs a lot saying, “We’re not going to be highlighting the megapixels or gigahertz.” The device would be highly competitive with respect to cost and specifications. These details relate to Nokia 6, as for the information relevant to the other handsets, the facts and figures are still unknown.

  1. It’s all Android

As stated above, HMD Global has partnered with Google for the purpose of producing Nokia phones running on Android OS. This is a much needed change for Nokia to divert users from the failed Windows phone perception and experience.

The latest Nokia 6 will run on Android 7.0 Nougat—the newest version of Google’s mobile OS. The new operating system came out this autumn, and is expected to be incorporated in a number of handsets (including Nokia’s impending phones) releasing till mid-2017.

  1. Likely a tablet on the books too

Of course! This year’s MWC will likely be featuring tablets too besides smartphones. An undeclared gadget has been reported being engaged in benchmark tests at GFXBench with the rumored specs such as 2,560 x 1,440 pixel display, Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, 12-megapixel camera, 4G LTE support, and NFC support. How much authentic is the report, we will come to know the truth quite soon.
