depends on where you live and phone company, August 11, 2016

So, this phone is all about where you live and who is your mobile provider.

The phone is stunning! If you think it looks amazing on the product shots wait till you see it in person. Battery is fine -If you have (or had) an iPhone 5s (or 6) you know what the battery life is like – You get a day (iphone SE is better, The old Z3 is still King). It is almost the same size as a Z3 and larger over the iphone SE. Audio is great, Spotify with an SD card and audio quality set to max is fantastic. Calls also sound great. Forget about the screen resolution being “only” 720p… it is a beautiful screen (and what makes the phone so stunning) websites are sharp, movies are vivid, photos look great. It also ran everything I do on a phone perfect (I do not play games on my phone – so no idea on that). The camera worked great on my Banking App and taking a picture of the label of a bottle of wine at dinner (dim light) came out sharp and clear.

The real issue here is your service. If you live in NYC and have T-Mobile you could have issues. This phone is missing VolTE on Band 12 for T-mobile. The phone itself has Band 12 but it is not certified to use voice over it, So the phone jumps all over the place. On my SE and Z3 I get LTE everywhere (I also get wifi calling from Tmobile) in my apartment. On the XA it keeps jumping from LTE to H+ to No Service.

If it does lock on the LTE 12 (only for data) and you get a call (or try and make a call) it will drop you off to H+ regardless of where you are (or if you out of luck, the call will simply fail). Needless to say this is a mess – you basically missing out on features on your T-Mobile plan (WiFi calling, LTE12 and HD calling) that makes the service much better inside office buildings/apartment and just in general.

If SONY updates this phone to better work on T-mobile it would be an amazing phone. If you live outside a city where band 12 is not needed it would also be great.

    UPDATE: Jan 06 2017.
Well, After taking it to NC (Charlotte) and using it in Nanuet and Mount Kisco (NY) with no signal problems (full bars almost all the time on TMobile – inside and out) It also worked for my 1hr of free in-flight data TMobile promotion on my Delta flight. I asked TMobile for help. They gave me a “CellSpot” for my NYC apartment – and now it works perfect – no dead spots, drop calls… just perfect. Back to using it as my daily phone.

I am in love with this phone!
I don’t understand what’s the big deal about this “bad” battery life. Do guys charge it every other day??
I have had this phone for about 2 weeks and there are no complaints. It runs smooth and fast and multitask very well!
    AND IT’S GORGEOUS.

Warnings to all the other klutz out there, March 1, 2017

Warnings to all the other klutz out there: The glass breaks very easily. Do not use your phone until you have a case and screen protector.
I really like how this phone looks and functions, however it was not very durable (for a klutz like me at least). I had been saving up my allowance money for a couple month for it and finally brought this phone about one week ago. I was super excited so I started using my phone even though the case didn’t come yet. Of course, unlike the other happy fairy tale, this story didn’t end well. I dropped my phone as I was trying to get it from my backpack (it was about a 4 feet drop and I had screen protection). Now there are cracks on my brand new phone. I have to admit it was my fault for not being careful but I expected more from this phone. I dropped my old phone countless times without case, even down the stairs one time, and not a single crack on the screen. The lesson of this story is that BE CAREFUL WHEN HANDLING THIS PHONE. 🙂
