We are living in the age of an application-driven and technology-fueled world. The quest for a high-quality internet connection is still on. This is why people are still debating whether private LTE is better or Wi-Fi for businesses.

While Wi-Fi is still preferred for businesses, there have been small scale technology-based companies who have started using the private LTE network. Over the last couple of years, it has been seen that most companies with small scale infrastructure are arising from the LTE network.

Slowly but the standard of the LTE connection is rising. The main reason for the private LTE network becoming the center connection is its ability to connect with other Internet Of Things (IoT).

If the other organizations are using a private LTE network, that doesn’t mean you will also do the same. Before you start using the LTE network for your business, you must ask yourself whether it is the right choice or not.

If you are thinking of deploying LTE technology in your business, you must do so after reading it.

Private LTE vs. Wi-Fi

Before we dive deep into this debate, we should be on the same page of understanding. Here let us first explain the two internet technologies.

What Is Private LTE?

LTE stands for Long Term Evolution. If this does not sound familiar, then how about 4G. Yes, this might be the easiest way to call the private LTE network. They are the 4th generation wireless broadband networks. It is used as a communication standard for data terminals and mobile devices.

The term LTE signifies a standard, superior, and high speed wireless cellular connection. With the LTE network, you get a large spectrum of bandwidth that can connect more devices. Most experts recommend this connection if your network is on the heavy side.

Private LTE networks use the radio waves to communicate among themselves. This is the reason why they are the fastest network for smartphones and mobile devices.

What Is Wi-Fi?

Undoubtedly, Wi-Fi has become one of the most known words in the field of the internet. But what does it mean? Wi-Fi is the short abbreviation of the wireless networking protocol. With the help of this technology, people can easily transfer or communicate with online data without internet cords.

This term has become a trademark of all the internet connection provider companies. The term Wi-Fi represents a type of network formed with the interconnection of the wires.

The whole Wi-Fi connection revolves around an electronic device called a router. It acts as a mediator between the two devices. The router transmits a wireless signal that can be read by the other devices. This signal helps the two devices communicate with each other.

Which Is More Suitable?

As we know that both LTE and Wi-Fi offer the same type of services. However, they differ in their infrastructure, technological aspects, and features.

1. Technology

The technological difference between the two is that you do not need any other device other than your smartphone to use the LTE network. You need a data plan, and you will be able to connect with the cellular network. However, when we come to Wi-Fi technology, a wireless router is needed to connect with other devices like laptops and tablets.

2. Security

When dealing with an internet connection, it becomes very important that we see how secure the connection is. Especially when you are a small enterprise that deals with clients’ confidential information. Although we know that every connection is not 100% secure, it has been seen that LTE networks rank higher than Wi-Fi in terms of security.

3. Coverage

Private LTE networks hold an absolute advantage over Wi-Fi in terms of coverage. The network is spread worldwide, and you can connect with the other devices located at the other end of the world. However, the same cannot be said for Wi-Fi.

Conclusion

No matter what we say, one thing is certain; the LTE network is improving every day. If you are wondering just how much improvement we can see in the LTE network, here is the answer: 5G. As the world is hoping for the 5G network, we can expect to see a much more secure and fast internet connection.
