I bought this instead of getting the latest ROKU – was also considering an MAC Mini. I spent an extra $80 beyond a ROKU, and saved hundreds from a MAC, but much more functionality than a ROKU. Was very, very hesitant considering the low price, and seeing some very bad recent reviews complaining about slow function, problems with drivers and Windows 10. I figured if I had an issue, I would just return it and go with something else.
I didn’t buy the bundle with the webcam and Logitech K400 because the product description said it was pre-installed with Windows 10, and one recent reviewer pointed to bad driver issues with Win10, so I bought a standalone unit, trying to avoid Windows 10, and the Logitech K400 separately. My unit came pre-installed with Windows 10 out of the box anyway.
After initial setup, I immediately had issues with the mouse stuttering so much as to make the unit unusable. I called the Quantum Byte technical support line expecting to wait 30 minutes, I immediately spoke to a tech support representative who advised me to move the Logitech USB dongle from the rear to the side USB port. It has worked fine ever since. The Quantum Byte has built in Bluetooth, but I needed to use the dongle for initial setup, and have just left it in since.

I also had an issue with the Windows 10 desktop being larger than my TV screen, which basically cuts off part of the outside of the desktop so I couldn’t see the taskbar. This can be fixed by the overscan function on your TV remote. I have a 5-year-old Sanyo LCD, and Sanyo has a PIX SHAPE button on the remote, which will cycle through all available overscan configurations. I just cycled this button until all the available Windows desktop was shown on the TV screen.
I use it mainly as a media center, playing Netflix, YouTube and Amazon prime. I also added a 2 TB external hard drive, and also use it as a file server for our home. I added 3 separate log ins for our family members, and everyone enjoys it and had no performance or hardware issues.
It is very snappy for as small and basic as it is, especially with only 2gb of RAM. Very satisfied, and gave it 5 stars based on the value for the price.

The Quantum Byte worked very well as a media center. With native Netflix, Hulu, and WatchESPN apps just to name a few, makes it easy to watch your content. A full browser brings in everything you would want stream online. If you do not like the IE browser just install Chrome, Firefox, or any browser you would like to use.

During my testing I had no issues with the Quantum Byte. It never crashed or hung-up in Windows or other applications.

    Pros:

    Very powerful for the price
Never crashed or hung up in our testing
    XBMC/Kodi is easy to install
    Easy and quick setup
    Full copy of Windows 8.1
    Very quiet

    Cons:

    Small internal hard drive
No keyboard/mouse or remote included (I recommend the Rii i8+ wireless keyboard and touchpad)

I am having some issues with mine, mostly due to misunderstanding what version of Windows 8.1 I was dealing with. I am deducting one star in my rating for the lack of a drivers disc or any way to recover drivers for this computer. I have communicated with the seller through email, and their solution for me is to provide a new WinPE image so I can re-image the computer and refresh to a clean install. Not what I expected, but given my issues I am impressed with their customer service.
I unpacked my Quantum Byte, hooked it up to my HDTV and turned it on. Snappy performance considering its size and hardware configuration. Was only a few minutes before I was streaming Avatar in full HD from my NAS using Kodi. And then I got myself in trouble. I tried to customize my desktop theme and received a message that Windows must be activated before I could change the settings. OK, I thought, we’ll just activate. Activation failed, presumably because it is already activated during initial configuration. I ended up feeling angry and confused, thinking I had a fake copy of Windows. I reinstalled the computer with Windows 8.1 Pro, and then the nightmare began. No drivers. Anywhere.

Learn from my troubles, and either use the Windows as-is or upgrade the copy of Windows 8.1 with Bing to a higher SKU of Windows 8.1 so that you keep the drivers. This is what I plan to do if I get the new disk image from Quantum Suppliers and get everything back to the original image.
    Pros
    – Small, silent, nice looking aesthetics
    – Good performance for home theater
    – Just works, right out of the box
    – Good people at Quantum Suppliers

    Cons
    – Base version of Windows 8.1 doesn’t allow full customization (just needs to be a set expectation, not really a con)
    – Very little documentation in box or on website
    – No recovery disc
    – No drivers on website

Overall, I would buy it again and I would recommend it as long as I set the expectation about Windows being the very base version and drivers being an issue. I am actually thinking about buying another one, I’m just going to force myself to leave it alone this time. 🙂
