Zii Egg and the Plaszma OS
This is interesting; The Zii EGG. Using Andriod and the OS called Plaszma, Zii is calling this the cornerstone of ‘Stem Cell Computing’. With this unit that means 24 floating point processors delivering 8 GFLOPS of computing power using a ZMS-05 ARM dual core chip. The EGG hardware also sports Open GL ES graphics capabilities, outputs 1080P HDMI, and records with an HD camera. WiFi, BlueTooth, GPS, and surprisingly the Opera browser with Flash are also features on this device which looks sort-of like an iPhone to me. But this is some serious hardware, and I’m really interested in seeing what can be done on the platform now that the EGG and SDK are released.

You can create as many virtual machines as you want, and install all operating systems as you want it. It is possible to define – for each virtual machine – how much memory it has, hard disk, if it has access to USB ports, the network, sound card, etc.

VirtualBox contains a disk manager that allows you to create virtual disk as .vdi files which appear as real discs in virtual machines.
This allows you to “create″ at will of the disks, without ever having to repartition your hard drive.

You can also directly use ISO images of CDs and DVDs, which can test Linux distributions without having to burn them. Icing on the cake, VirtualBox RDP server has an integrated, allowing you to start a virtual machine on a computer, and use this virtual machine from another computer.

Predictable rumor: There will be a Sony PSP-4000
The PSP-4000 would replace the current PSP-3000; it will have nothing to do with the PSP Go, Sony’s UMD-less system that’s due on October 1.

This rumor comes by way of someone (“Super_Secret�) who leaked the plans of the PS3 Slim, and look how that turned out.

I would imagine it would include things like an improved screen, better battery life, etc. You know, the things that usually happen with this type of product revision.

Mivvy from Czech has just rolled out its smartphone known as Mivvy one, where it will be powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. This full touchscreen handset won't bring the house down with its features though, coming with mid-range specifications including :-

Sony’s new Library Finder application offers Sony eBook Store visitors access to their local library’s collection of eBooks. Thousands of libraries in the OverDrive network offer eBooks optimized for the Sony Reader and now visitors can find these libraries by typing their zip code into the Library Finder. Through the selected library’s download website, visitors can check out eBooks with a valid library card, download them to a PC and transfer them to their Reader. At the end of the library’s lending period, eBooks expire, so there are never any late fees. The Reader Daily Edition will be available in December for $399.

Sony Japan announces 5 new Blu-ray recorder/HDD combos

The flood of video recording devices coming out of Japan doesn’t want to end. Today Sony unveiled five Blu-ray recorders with built-in HDDs [JP] for the Japanese market, and one of them has a 2 TB HDD. Sony says they tried to focus especially on usability and design with these machines.

The new line consists of the BDZ-EX200 (2TB HDD/$2,800/pictured above), BDZ-RX100 (1TB HDD/$1,800), BDZ-RX50 (500GB HDD/$1,500), BDZ-RX30 (320GB HDD/$1,200) and the BDZ-RS10 (320GB HDD/$1,000).

Sony added Sky PerfecTV support for some of these devices (the 320GB-models are being left out), which marks the first time a manufacturer did that for a Blu-ray recorder. The model equipped with a 2TB HDD, for example, can store 253 of HD TV material. The devices (again, apart from the 320 GB-models) support Sony Walkman and the PSP, too.

Japanese stores will get the players in the middle of September, but the flagship model (the EX200) will go on sale at the beginning of November. No word yet on international sales plans from Sony.

Cube H600HD portable media player

In the name of progress, the Cube H600HD portable media player will ditch 720p video support and settle for 1080i instead, making us wonder whether portable media players need to exhibit such blatant displays of capability or not. After all, the 5" LCD display comes with just 800 x 480 resolution, which is already unable to cater for 720p videos decently, what more 1080i. In addition, 4GB of storage space is hardly enough to carry more than a couple of high definition movies. There is no word on pricing or availability, although we do know the Cube H600HD portable media player is able to handle a wide range of audio and video formats.
